Virtual Access Sponsors RAAM World Record Beaters

21/06/13 update: After 3,000 gruelling miles the Allied Forces team of Strategic Lions and 4MIL have delivered on their promise of beating the RAAM eight-man relay world record of 5 days, 5 hours and 5 minutes.

The Allied Forces team reached the finish line at Annapolis, Maryland in a total time of 5 days, 3 hours and 24 minutes achieving an average race speed of 24.21, itself a new record, shaving more than 90 minutes off the previous best set last year.

After lengthy celebrations, Team 4Mil and the Strategic Lions will eventually go their separate ways but they will hold on to the memory that they have achieved something remarkable.

Andy Watson, founder of the Strategic Lions commented, “This is an unbelievable and overwhelming feeling. I’ve always said that with the right attitude, right training and right equipment, everyday people can attain world class achievements. Working as one with our American brothers in 4Mil we have just proved this point.”

Patrick Conway, Business Development Director of Virtual Access commented, “We are extremely proud to have sponsored such a dedicated team. The result is a remarkable achievement. We are all thrilled that Allied Forces have smashed the previous eight-man team RAAM world record and all at Virtual Access send congratulations to the team and crew who worked together to make this happen.”

18/06/13 update: The team have now reached the 16th of 55 time stations across the route and have covered some 912 miles. Their total racing time at this point is 1 day, 13 hours and 19 minutes averaging just shy of 24.5mph.

14/06/13: Dublin, Virtual Access is proudly sponsoring the eight man UK Strategic Lions team in this year’s Race Across America (RAAM).

Known as the World’s toughest bicycle race, RAAM has become an international attraction for cyclists and is one of the best platforms to raise money for charitable causes.

The team will be cycling 3,051 miles non-stop west to east coast from Oceanside, California to Maryland, touching 12 states, climbing over 170,000 feet and experiencing temperatures ranging from minus five degrees centigrade in the Colorado Mountains to 41 degrees centigrade in the Arizona and Kansas deserts.  The team will average speeds of 23 miles per hour as they attempt to break the current world record.

Strategic Lions have teamed up with US counterparts Team 4Mil to form Allied Forces, in pursuit of the RAMM eight-man relay world record which stands at 5 days, 5 hours and 5 minutes. The riders are raising funds for injured soldiers on both sides of the Atlantic with Strategic Lions assisting Help for Heroes and Team 4Mil supporting rehabilitation programs for Combat-Wounded Veterans.

Virtual Access wishes them all the best in their fund raising and World record attempt.
